Jewish Hospital opened in 1905 with a mission to provide all patients with the highest quality care and a strong emphasis on research and education. Today, Jewish Hospital is a 517-bed, internationally renowned, high-tech tertiary referral center located in downtown Louisville, developing leading-edge advancements in the minimally invasive surgery, hand and microsurgery, heart and lung care, home care, Jewish Emergency Care, rehab medicine (including sports medicine), orthopaedics, neuroscience, occupational health, organ transplantation, outpatient care, palliative care, Stereotaxis GentleTouch Magnetic System, and wound care. Many of the hospital's clinical programs have achieved national rankings for excellence. In 2008, Jewish Hospital Ranked as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Of the 5,453 hospitals evaluated for the 2008 report, only 170 received scores high enough to qualify for rankings in the 16 specialty areas. Jewish Hospital is the only hospital in Louisville and only one of three hospitals in Kentucky to make the list of the "50 Best Hospitals." Jewish Hospital is among the best in heart and heart surgery; neurology and neurosurgery; and respiratory disorders. This is the fourth year in a row for heart care, three years in a row for respiratory disorders and second year for neurology/neurosurgery. Noted for numerous medical "firsts" in Kentucky, the nation and the world, Jewish Hospital is the site of the nation's only four hand transplants, and the world's first and second successful AbioCor™ Implantable Replacement Heart transplant. The hospital is federally designated to perform all five solid organ transplants - heart, lung, liver, kidney and pancreas. Jewish Hospital is the flagship facility for Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare (JHSMH), a regional health network that includes 70 facilities, more than 8,100 employees and 1,900 patient beds in Kentucky and southern Indiana. Driving East or West on I-64 or South on I-71: exit onto I-65 South and follow directions below Driving South on I-65: Exit 136C, Jefferson Street. Veer right at fork. From Jefferson Street, turn left onto First Street. Turn left on Chestnut Street. Turn left on Brook Street. Turn right immediately after Abraham Flexner Way behind the Rudd Heart and Lung Center and proceed to the Visitors Parking Garage Driving North on I-65: Exit 136C, Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Turn right onto Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Turn left into the Jewish Hospital Medical Campus. Proceed to the Visitors Parking Garage. OR Exit 136B onto Brook Street. Turn right immediately after Abraham Flexner Way behind the Rudd Heart and Lung Center. Follow the signs to the Visitors Parking Garage. Patients may park for free in the visitor’s garage, located off of Muhammad Ali Blvd. on our downtown campus. Guests and other visitors may pay to park in this garage for $1 per hour up to five hours; after five hours a flat fee of $7 will be assessed. For those visiting us for a longer time, seven-day parking vouchers are available for $10. Valet parking is provided free to patients with a valid handicap permit. Valet parking is available to guests and other visitors for an $8 fee. Security Services may be reached by calling (502) 587-4484.
