Women’s Center Offers Top-Notch Diagnostics
The following services will be offered at the new Women’s Center:
- Breast ultrasounds help diagnose any abnormalities detected during a physical exam or seen on a mammogram. Ultrasounds can help determine whether an abnormality is a noncancerous lump, a cancerous tumor or a benign cyst.
- Sterotactic breast biopsy is a safe, minimally invasive procedure used to obtain tiny samples from an abnormal breast mass. It is an alternative to open or surgical biopsy. A sample of suspect breast tissue is precisely located with a computer-guided imaging system and removed with a needle. The procedure is completed on an outpatient basis with minimal discomfort and recovery time.
- Bone density scanning, also called DXA or DEXA scans, is a specialized Xray used to measure bone loss. DEXA is today’s established standard for measuring bone mineral density, which may be of concern for women approaching or going through menopause.
