Partnerships - UofL, Bellarmine, Jefferson County Public Schools and southern Indiana Public Schools

DossJewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab Institute Sports Medicine Program is the official health care provider for the Louisville Cardinal Athletics and partners with Bellarmine University Athletic Department and Jefferson County UofLPublic Schools including Doss High School Magnet Career Academy, Louisville Male Traditional High School, Dupont Manual High School and others.

The initial partnership began with the University of Louisville in 1997, and has since become a national sports medicine model for collegiate sports. This comprehensive program originated to join the needs of a successful metropolitan university with the expertise of a world-class medical center specializing in hand and microsurgery, cardiovascular programs and research, transplantation and rehab care. It is through this initial partnership that the Sports Medicine program has continued to grow and improve in its services.

Focusing on more than just injuries and pre-season physicals, the program has evolved into an extensive array of Maleservices, packaged with a multi-faceted approach. This new approach helps the student athlete and coaches understand the need for preventive measures and education. Six years into a decade long contract, Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab Institute Sports Medicine Program treats over 600 student athletes, in 22 sports, at U of L.

The success of the partnership with the University of Louisville led to four additional agreements; with Bellarmine University, Doss High School Magnet Career Academy, Louisville Male Traditional High School and Dupont Manual High School.Bellarmine

At Bellarmine University, the partnership extends its services to nearly 300 athletes over 16 intercollegiate teams. This arrangement is designed to facilitate preventive care for all student athletes, as well as assist in surgeries, MRI's, x-rays and pre-season physicals.

Partnerships have also been forged with many southern Indiana schools, such as Salem High School, West Washington High School, Eastern High School (Pekin, IN), Scottsburg High School, Austin High School, Jeffersonville High School, New Washington High School and Clarksville High School.

As a precautionary measure, Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab Institute Sports Medicine Program donated an Automatic External Defibrilator (AED) to assist in any potential life-threatening situations. "We expect this program to flourish over the next five years, and look forward to strengthening the relationship between the two organizations," said ManualJoanne Berryman, senior vice president of Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare. The partnership with Doss High School Magnet Career Academy allows Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab Institute to help guide the first Sports Medicine Magnet in Jefferson County Public Schools. Not only is an athletic trainer on-site to assist in games and practices, but helps in instruction of the classes as well.

Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab Institute Sports Medicine Program is creating a stir in the region in which no other medical organization can compare. As the program continues to grow, we look forward to future partnerships.
