Research
Increase understanding of the causes of movement disorders – By identifying the risk factors for the development of Parkinsonian disorders, we can disentangle the causes and search for therapies that could prevent or stop the disease. Refine and develop symptomatic and biologic interventions – Developing therapies that could slow disease progression and treat challenging symptoms is essential. Improve understanding of non-motor functions – Non-motor symptoms are at times the hardest to manage and the ones that lead to early institutionalization. Their better understanding will allow us to provide appropriate management. With a team of 15 researchers who work in conjunction with scientists at universities across the country, the Division provides patients with access to the most advanced knowledge and treatments in the field. In addition, our program is affiliated with the Litvan Neurological Research Foundation [www.litvanfoundation.com], a non-profit organization established to strive for the discovery of a cure for patients with neurodegenerative disorders presenting with Parkinson's disease, atypical Parkinsonian disorders or dementia symptoms. The program is also dedicated to teaching medical and doctor of philosophy students, residents, fellows and allied health students. For a list of current clinical trials, click here.
