Education and Outreach
The Movement Disorders Program serves patients and caregivers from Kentucky, Southern Indiana and surrounding regions. The overall goal of the program is to help patients function as well as possible with their disorder, while waiting for a cure. The program focuses not only on physical aspects, but also on emotional and psychological health of the patients and their caregivers. Bill Collins Parkinson’s Patient Resource and Education Center The Bill Collins Parkinson’s Patient Resource and Education Center is named in honor of a Louisville native who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1973. Community Outreach The Movement Disorders Program has been a leader in launching Moving Ahead, an educational and outreach program for patients, caregivers and health care providers. Bringing information and services to underserved communities through support groups and helping develop specialized rehab teams in these areas is also a priority of the program. In addition, Frazier Rehab Institute and U of L, in partnership with the Parkinson’s Support Center of Kentuckiana, provide multiple community programs dedicated to early detection and management of movement disorders. Our physicians and other members of the allied health team frequently participate in support group activities throughout the region. Furthering the Medical Profession The U of L Division of Movement Disorders is dedicated to furthering the knowledge of medical professionals concerning movement disorders and training professionals in the care of these diseases. The program offers a fellowship program in movement disorders and dementia. The program also provides continuing education to physicians and allied health professionals regarding movement disorders, the diagnosis of these diseases, and the most recent developments in their management and treatment.
