Brain Injury

A brain injury or illness can be devastating for both patients and family members. The results can mean dramatic changes in a person’s mental, emotional and physical functioning.

At Frazier Rehab Institute, the Brain Injury Program addresses the long-term impact of brain injury and offers the most complete continuum of rehab services in Kentuckiana.

Frazier Rehab Institute’s comprehensive services range from acute inpatient through NeuroRehab Program, outpatient rehab and re-entry into home, school, work and the community.

  • Assist individuals in developing the skills and confidence needed to rebuild their lives
  • Help patients and their families to recognize, understand, accept and adjust to the ongoing difficulties caused by brain injury
  • Program focuses on the personal dignity of the individual and maximal possible recovery

Features

  • The inpatient programs treat patients at three levels of recovery:
    • Phase I – Early recovery, with a focus on coma recovery, physical restoration,
      pre-feeding training and stimulation
    • Phase II – Intermediate, with an emphasis on communication skills, swallowing,
      mobility, daily living skills, fitness, leisure re-training and adjustment to injury
    • Phase III – Advanced, with an emphasis on more advanced thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral and emotional adjustment and community re-integration
  • Day Hospital, a cost-effective outpatient approach allowing patients to continue their recovery in a rehab facility while living in a home setting
  • NeuroRehab Program, located at Frazier Rehab Institute East, is designed to help patients build the skills and strategies to successfully resume involvement in home, community, school and/or work
