Patient Evaluation & Care All lung transplant candidates are evaluated and cared for by board certified pulmonologists. Immuno- suppressive management of the patient during the transplant and post-discharge phase is coordinated by the Transplant Team. The team consults with the referring physician throughout the transplant process regarding each patient's status. Transplant Coordinators provide continuity throughout the entire transplantation process, from referral to aftercare follow-up. Transplant social workers along with financial counselors assist the patient and their family with temporary lodging accommodations, insurance verification, and other pertinent matters. Patients referred to our Transplant Center undergo a complete medical assessment specific to their needs. This assessment may include:
In addition, lung transplant patients must be nonsmoking for the rest of their lives. Patients are also screened for anticipated compliance, support system availability, and emotional stability. Financial coverage for the transplant and aftercare is also confirmed. The Lung Transplant Team is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, to answer any questions or address any issues regarding patient care. (The Transplant Center, 1-800-866-7539.)
