The science of gender-specific medicine is so new that many physicians
still consider it "women's health." The initial goal for the
Center for Gender-Specific Medicine is to educate the community
as well as physicians and health care providers about what Gender-Specific
Medicine is and that it pertains to both men and women. Another goal is
to describe the different disease states for both men and women. To do
this, we will provide community educational programs on a variety of pertinent
medical topics and disease states of which there are gender-specific differences.
These may include:
- Gender-Specific Differences in Cardiovascular Health
- Gender-Specific Differences in Lung Cancer
- Osteoporosis: Not just for women any more
- Things your husband needs to know about prostate surgery
- The Importance of HDL (high density lipoprotein) the "good"
cholesterol
Associated with these educational events, we may also consider offering
gender-specific screenings:
- Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
- Dexa screening (bone density) for men and women
