Stroke
has become a treatable disease, with effective therapies currently available
and new therapies being developed for the aggressive treatment and management
of strokes. Regionally, Jewish Hospital is leading the way in providing
a comprehensive approach to stroke patients with the Emergency Stroke
Center, which received Primary Stroke Certification by the Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Jewish Hospital’s
Emergency Stroke Center is the region's first center dedicated to treating
strokes.
Along with increasing public awareness about the warning signs of stroke
and the need for immediate medical attention, the Emergency Stroke Center
provides a dedicated unit to treat strokes immediately and help limit
the devastating effects. Research proves that patients treated in a dedicated
stroke care facility often have enhanced quality of life, better overall
outcomes and go home sooner - so they're less likely to require lengthy
stays at a skilled nursing or rehab facility.
