Spinal Cord Medicine Clinics

Frazier Rehab Institute identified the need for comprehensive medical management of spinal cord injured patients throughout the continuum of care. This resulted in the development of the Spinal Cord Medicine Clinic in April of 2006. The Spinal Cord Medicine Clinic is owned and operated by Frazier Rehab. The clinic provides continued comprehensive medical and rehabilitative management for spinal cord injured patients throughout their lifespan.

For most patients the first 4 to 6 weeks after discharge from acute rehab is the most difficult. Frazier’s SCM Clinic is designed to provide the support necessary for the patient and family to transition home and have a successful outcome. The SCM Case Manager, Nurse Coordinator and the SCM Clinic’s Medical Assistant work to make going home less intimidating. For those patients who have not had a recent inpatient stay at Frazier Rehab, the Spinal Cord Medicine Clinic helps manage their specialized care needs and helps maintain long-term health.

Dr. Douglas Stevens, our Spinal Cord Medicine Board Certified Physician, and his partner Dr. John Shaw work in conjunction with and compliment the services provided by primary care doctors. Our treatment team, who specialize in the management of spinal cord injuries provide comprehensive evaluations and coordinate any needed follow-up services. This multidisciplinary team develops a collaborative plan, coordinates and manages care, and makes appropriate referrals to the JHSMH network of services.

The Spinal Cord Medicine Clinic is located on the 11th floor of the Frazier Rehab & Neuroscience Institute. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.to 5 p.m. Patients are scheduled to see the physicians on Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
